Limousines are often associated with proms and famous people. However, limos also make great transportation for a child's birthday party. In fact, the entire party can take place in the limo if planned correctly. Follow a few simple tips, and your child will feel like a star and have a birthday party to remember.

Types of Limousines

Limousines come in a variety of forms, from standard six-passenger limousines to super-stretch limousines that can hold up to 14 guests. Limousines come in more than just black and white; they can now be found in hot pink, neon-lit and specialty designs. Limos are not restricted to cars. SUV limos are available, with some that can hold more than 24 passengers. Hummer limos are the biggest, and many even offer separate seating areas. With so many different types of limos to choose from, the look and feel of the limo can be as unique as the child himself.

Guest List and Budget

One of the first things you will want to determine is your party size. This will determine what type of limo you will need to secure. If you are on a strict budget, look for the largest limo within your budget. This will determine the maximum on your guest list. If the limo seats 12 and you have 13 guests, someone will be left out. It is vitally important that the guest list is kept in check for a limo party to avoid disappointment and guests left out of the fun. Limo seating capacity is not negotiable, so extra guests will not be able to be accommodated.

Onboard Activities

Limos can provide a lot of fun on their own. However, you may wish to supply snacks, drinks, music, movies or decorations to make it more personalized. Limousines may come with a variety of amenities, including televisions, karaoke machines, refrigerators, separate seating areas, dance floors on larger hummer limos and sunroofs. Ask the limo company about any restrictions when planning the party.

Plan Destinations

A limo party is versatile. The party can be held entirely on the limo with activities and sightseeing opportunities, or the limo can simply be transportation to another destination. Former limousine driver Robert Coats discussed children's parties and limousines for He said it is best to plan at least one pit stop along the course of the ride. If the group is planning a 2-hour ride, plan a pit stop after about an hour. Places to stop can include fast food restaurants, ice cream shops, parks or any place of interest for the birthday child. This will also give kids a chance to feel special being seen getting in and out of the limousine, which Coats says is something many kids enjoy.
