Hilary Duff's Response to Body Shamers Is Perfect
Hilary Duff takes to social media to clap back at body shaming bullies via this impressive Instagram post
While she may have originally captured our hearts as Lizzie McGuire, our love for Hilary Duff just got a whole lot stronger after her recent Instagram post. After intrusive paparazzi photos of Duff at the beach began attracting some negative body-shaming attention (presumably for so-called body “imperfections”), she clapped back on Instagram with the ultimate levelheaded response to shut them all down.
Because while ignoring trolls can sometimes be the right move, having the perfect retort is priceless.
Duff, who Refinery29 reports has been vacationing with her son in Canada, let the ugly comments roll off her back, using it as an opportunity to make a positive statement.
“I am posting this on behalf of young girls, women, and mothers of all ages,” Duff’s post began. “Since websites and magazines love to share ‘celeb flaws’ — well I have them! My body has given me the greatest gift of my life: Luca, 5 years ago. I’m turning 30 in September and my body is healthy and gets me where I need to go.”
While the “flaws” that Duff seems to be showcasing in her post are her legs and butt, in reality the celebrity looks pretty unequivocally flawless. So while it is important to be sharing messages like this, it shouldn’t go unacknowledged that it may be easier for people like Duff to be strong and share their message than someone who strays a bit further from the cultural stereotype of the ideal body.
Regardless, we can always use more celebs using their platform to help break down this outdated view of beauty. Because, at the end of the day, Duff’s words are gold, no matter what you look like: “Ladies, let’s be proud of what we’ve got and stop wasting precious time in the day wishing we were different, better, and unflawed.”
Duff uses the last few lines to switch gears and address the haters directly. “You guys (you know who you are!) already know how to ruin a good time, and now you are body shamers as well.” Topping it all of with a wonderfully poignant “#kissmyass.”
