DIY: Kid's Wagon Plans
Wagons have been a popular toy since they were first introduced. You may purchase one from a mall or a toy store at reasonable prices or make your own. A do-it-yourself child's wagon will take more than an afternoon to make and requires some workshop skills and proficiency with tools.
Lay the 2 by 3 wooden board flat on a work surface. Lay one aluminum pole six inches from the edge of the shorter side. Hold it down tightly and drill a hole at the center of the pole through both the pole and the board with the power drill. Insert a bolt through both holes and secure it with a nut.
Lay the other pole one foot in from the other 2-foot side of the board. Drill two holes, each one foot in from one end of the pole, through the pole and the board. Drive bolts through these holes and secure them with a nut on the other side.
Slide a wheel on one end of a pole. Take a thread cap and screw it in with your hand. Repeat this step for each end of the poles.
Hold a 2 by 1 board against a shorter side -- the front or back -- and nail it to the bottom board with a hammer and nails. Drive a nail every inch along the bottom edge. Repeat this to the other shorter side 1.
Hold a 3 by 1 board against either of the remaining sides and nail it to the bottom board with a hammer and nails. Drive a nail every inch along the bottom edge. Repeat this to the other side 1. Nail the side boards together by driving nails in through the edges of the longer boards into the edges of the shorter boards.
Unwind one foot of the rope so there are two strands. Tie a knot at the place where the unwounded sections join together into the wound rope. Tie one of the unwound ends to the aluminum pole one inch from the left front wheel. Tie the other end to the pole one inch from the other wheel. This rope will be the steering handle.
Make sure to keep the tips of the nails inside the wood so they can't puncture skin or tear clothing.
