Beginning Piano Books for Toddlers and Preschoolers
Even though your toddler or preschooler isn’t quite reading yet, it’s never too early to start teaching her to love music. Probably the last thing on your mind right now is giving her another way to make noise! But with the right beginning piano books and a little time, your child can be making some beautiful (or, at least not scary) music. Just make sure the time you spend at the piano is fun and feels like a game. That way when it’s time to sign her up for lessons, she won’t run screaming in the other direction.
Music for Little Mozarts
"Music for Little Mozarts," which is for ages 4 to 6, is a beginning piano book series developed by Alfred Music Publishing, the world’s largest educational music publisher. Written by Christine H. Barden, this program is designed for the youngest musician just starting on her piano journey. The course focuses on the adventures of Beethoven Bear and Mozart Mouse as they learn about the piano and how to make music. Music for Little Mozarts has four levels and is designed to be used over a two-year period.
Piano for Preschoolers
"Piano for Preschoolers" teaches children to read real notes and play real keys from the first lesson. Color-coded guides help little ones see and play the music at the same time. The program also includes a 17-track CD with a count-aloud, voice-over for each song, a coordinating color strip for your piano that guides children to the right note, and a parent and teacher guide.
Instant Piano Fun with Nursery Rhymes
"Instant Piano Fun with Nursery Rhymes" by Nancy Poffenberger uses children’s favorite nursery rhymes to introduce them to the fun of the piano. With color-coded letter stickers that fit right onto your piano keys, you’ll have your toddler playing simple tunes to familiar stories and recognizing letters at the same time. This book is designed for children age 2 to 6 and includes favorites like Three Blind Mice, This Old Man, The Muffin Man and The Bear Went Over the Mountain.
Piano-K, The Self-Teaching Piano Game
"Piano-K" is a visual piano program for kids ages 3 and up. Piano-K is a self-teaching program that integrates colors and figures into the score and their matching stickers on the keyboard. Animal stickers help kids associate notes on the keyboard with their place in the music without realizing they are learning to read music. This fun, game-like piano method has 12 lessons in each book and three levels of play.
