Theme Parks

Orlando, Florida, is home to several theme parks. Each of the theme parks has areas that are appropriate for, and even geared for, a 2-year-old to enjoy. SeaWorld has family-friendly shows that feature marine animals doing tricks. A 2-year-old will enjoy watching Shamu or the Dolphin Show. There is also a play area specifically geared towards the under-5 set, including a sea-themed merry-go-round, slides and pirate ship. Disney World is a well known attraction in Orlando, Florida. Magic Kingdom within Disney World has rides that are specifically toddler-friendly, a merry-go-round and Dumbo ride are just a couple of rides that a 2-year-old can enjoy. Universal Studios is usually thought of as a park for older children, with roller coasters and movie rides, but there are 2-year-old-friendly activities there as well. A playground and Dr. Seuss' area are sure to please toddlers and parents alike.

For the toddler who loves animals, there are several options to choose from. Animal Kingdom, one of the parks of Disney World, includes animals on a safari ride, an animal nursery and animals throughout the park. Gatorland is a theme park and zoo that specializes in alligators. They offer reptile education, shows that include the gators and gator-themed gifts. The Central Florida Zoo is also open year-round to enjoy seeing animals.

Orlando has parks all throughout the city. Blanchard Park on the east side of Orlando offers fishing, biking and walking trails, as well as a playground that is padded for little toddler falls. Downey Park has a toddler-friendly playground and also has a pond, with lifeguards, next to a sandy beach. Many other parks throughout the city offer playgrounds and activities that are family-friendly and appropriate for a 2-year-old.

If you are in Orlando, drive 30 to 45 minutes east or west and you will run into a beach. Cocoa Beach is on the western coast and has lifeguards on duty to keep you and your toddler safe. New Smyrna beach is a family-friendly beach where you are able to drive your vehicle directly onto the beach, a great benefit when lugging around the coolers and umbrellas that you will need to keep your 2-year-old comfortable.

Water Parks

The Orlando-area water parks have rides and areas for all ages, with special areas set aside for toddlers to enjoy. Wet N Wild is located about 10 minutes from the downtown area and has a toddler pool area. Typhoon Lagoon, located in the Disney area, offers toddler-sized water slides and a toddler-sized wave pool. Aquatica, SeaWorld's water park, offers a sandy beach for toddler's to play in, a toddler-sized splash zone and water slides for the under-preschool age group.
