Warner Robbins was named the best place in Georgia to raise a family by Business Week magazine in 2009. It's no wonder then that there are a number of activities for kids in the area. Parents looking for a way to keep kids entertained and engaged during the summer months can choose from a number of day camps. There are options for all age groups and to meet all interests.

Science Camps

Science can be fun with many of the summer programs available in the area. The Museum of Aviation offers multiple summer camps for students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Camps are offered around a theme, such as flight, sea life, space, forensic science and more. The camps meet Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 4 p.m.

Kids who like robotics and other technology will likely enjoy the Robot Kids Club, which offers a variety of camps throughout the summer. Some camps include robotics, rocket science, aviation, and Lego designs. Each camp is designed for a different age group, but most camps fall under the 8 to 14 age group. Camps meet at different times, usually for a week.

Arts Camps

If your little one is a budding Picasso or just enjoys performing in front of a crowd, you might consider one of the many arts camps in the area. The Stageworks Theatre Camp at the Douglass Theatre in Macon, about 10 miles from Warner Robins, is designed for children ages 7 to 14 and lasts for six weeks. Students learn not only acting techniques, but also set design, lighting techniques, and how to operate sound equipment. Campers put on a production in the last week. The camp meets from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Macon Little Theatre's Summer Camp is open to kids 4 and older who are interested in performing. Each camp is centered around a single production. A mini-camp for kids 4 to 8 meets in the mornings, and the main camp for kids 9 and older meets in the afternoons.

Sports Camps

Kids have a lot of energy. Give them a healthy outlet for it by enrolling them in a sports camp for the summer. The Wellness Center in Macon offers Camp Fun n' Fit for kids ages 6 to 11. Camp activities include nutrition classes and fun exercises like dance, relay races, swimming and team sports.

The Academy of Dance offers several summer camps for different age groups, such as rhythm tap and musical theater. Children as young as 4 can learn how to dance and have fun during these themed camps.

All-Inclusive Camps

If you don't want to focus your children's experience to just one hobby or activity, you can sign them up for an all-inclusive camp that encompasses a variety of activities. The Summer Kids University at Fort Valley State University in Warner Robins provides a variety of activities, such as computer classes, language instruction, self-defense workshops, creative writing, arts and crafts and more. The camp meets throughout the summer from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and after care is available.

The Boys and Girls Club offers summer camps in Warner Robins that include activities designed to foster confidence and self-esteem. Activities include arts and crafts, sports, outdoor education and more. Children ages 6 and older are welcome.
