One of the tenets of goal setting asserts that for goals to be successful they must be challenging and specific. Targets should be demanding in a way that pushes the setter to explore new heights. Goals are a great way of defining the uniqueness of a school and its students because they become a culture that bounds the institution together. Realistic goals are holistic and must take in all the players in the institution including students, teachers, parents and leadership.
Teachers’ Morale and Motivation
A teacher is an important caregiver in a child’s life especially in a modern society where most working mothers leave children under the care of teachers for a better part of their lives. As a result, they heavily influence the outcome of a child in terms of career, cognitive development, behavior and emotional stability. When teachers are disgruntled, they are likely to pass the frustration onto students, which affects their performance, learning environment and attitude. Well motivated teachers tend to give their best to their students. Teachers are motivated through promotions, more responsibilities, increased freedom to make decisions in the workplace and good pay.
Creativity, Innovation and Talent Promotion
Most schools only focus on academic excellence and ignore other types of abilities that children possess. A child’s ability has a lot to do with a successful future. When a child begins exercising their talent and creativity early in life, they derive happiness, achievement and satisfaction in the process. Research has shown that children who are allowed to exercise their talents perform well in school. A school program should be designed to allow students to explore their genius and innovative capacity. A school can start innovation competitions that will enable children to showcase their talents.
Personal and Professional Development
Most education systems fail to achieve the goal of a well-rounded child. A school should be focused on building the academic and personal aspect of a child. School should strive to achieve personal and professional development of children through guidance, counseling, mentorship and other activities that will groom children’s self esteem, ability to make moral decisions and relationship with others. The school can also set targets that will help children choose their professional pathway early in life.
Exciting Learning Environment
School is not one of the favorite places for most children for various reasons, which negatively affects academic performance. For children to perform well, they must appreciate and connect with the learning environment. The right schooling environment is achieved by motivated and friendly teachers, a safe environment free from bullying and abuse, sport activities, adequate breaks, welcoming and warm staff and diversity and inclusion. A friendly environment gives children greater freedom to express themselves, engage in challenging and creative activities and interact with easily accessible and approachable caregivers that give more than just academics. Realistic goals of having a friendly environment must be initiated by teachers, who must be appreciated, recognized for hard work and respected by parents and school administrators.
