How to make big strong bubble solution
Not all bubble solutions are created equal 2. While many off-the-shelf bubble solutions are adequate for casual bubble-making, few are suited for making big bubbles, and commercial bubble solutions designed for making big bubbles can be expensive. Bubble-makers have developed a variety of recipes for big bubble solutions, and you can create your own big bubble solution by combining distilled water, dish detergent, glycerine and, in some recipes, commercial bubble solution. You can scale each recipe to produce more or less bubble solution as long as you maintain each recipe's ingredient ratio.
Measure just under 3 cups (700ml) of distilled water with your measuring cup and pour the distilled water in your mixing container. Measure just over 1 1/4 cups (300ml) of dish detergent with your measuring cup. Remember that you can add more or less of a given ingredient to change the properties of your bubble solution if your initial results are unsatisfactory.
Slowly stir the water with your spoon and gently pour the dish detergent into the water. Continue to stir the solution until the dish detergent has thoroughly mixed with the water and excess foam has dissipated.
Measure and pour just over 3 1/3 tbsp (50ml) of glycerine into the bubble solution. Slowly stir the bubble solution until the glycerine has thoroughly mixed with the bubble solution.
Measure 1 1/2 gallons (24 cups or 5.7 litres) of distilled water with your measuring cup and pour the distilled water into your mixing container. Measure 1 1/4 cups (296ml) of dish detergent with your measuring cup.
Slowly stir the water with your mixing spoon and gently pour the dish detergent into the water. Continue to slowly stir the solution until the dish detergent has thoroughly mixed with the water and excess foam has dissipated.
Measure and pour 6 tbsp (177ml) of glycerine into the bubble solution. Slowly stir the bubble solution until the glycerine has thoroughly mixed with the bubble solution.
Measure and pour 5 to 7 1/2 cups (1.2 to 1.8 litres) of commercial bubble solution into your home-made bubble solution. Slowly stir your home-made bubble solution until the commercial bubble solution has thoroughly mixed with your home-made bubble solution.
Experiment with different brands in different amounts to find the optimal big bubble solution. The bubble-making properties of dish detergents and commercial bubble solutions vary from brand to brand and year to year, so a given recipe may be more or less effective than described. Store your bubble solution in a container with a sealed lid. Sealing your bubble solution will prevent the bubble solution from thickening due to evaporation. Make bubbles on days with 60% or higher humidity. High humidity levels will allow your bubbles to last longer.
Bubble solutions are toxic and should be kept away from the eyes and other sensitive body parts at all costs. Wear eye protection when bubble-making to prevent eye contact with bubbles due to sudden wind changes. Thoroughly clean all utensils and containers used to make your bubble solution after completion.
