Famous Places in the World for Children to Visit

The world has centuries of rich history left behind in famous landmarks, cities, towns and buildings. You have no shortage of places to take your children, but you might not want them to miss certain famous sites. Consider what continent you're traveling to, and build your itinerary around the most famous places.

North America

North America has a wealth of famous places your child shouldn't miss. The Grand Canyon in Arizona, Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming and Mount Rushmore in South Dakota are outdoor wonders that allow children to get close to nature. Washington, D.C., teaches the history of the United States with visits to the Washington Monument, the White House and Lincoln Memorial. New York City is home to the Statue of Liberty and Central Park, and California is the place to see the Golden Gate Bridge, the Pacific Ocean and Hollywood. South America

Aside from the typical stops at the Eiffel Tower, London Bridge and the many castles spread throughout the continent, you have other famous places to take your children. Stop at the Berlin Wall in Germany for a history lesson or see where the Battle of Waterloo occurred in Belgium. See Vatican City in Italy and the various historical buildings in Rome such as the Colosseum and the Sistine Chapel. Don't miss the Parthenon in Greece, either. Your children might also enjoy seeing the famous tulips in Holland and the majestic fortresses in Russia.


The Great Wall of China is among the most famous places to visit in Asia, and it will certainly offer your child educational history lessons. While in China, your child will also see pandas, which the country is famous for, as well. In Japan, your child will learn more about World War II and can see Hiroshima, where the United States dropped the first atomic bomb. In Tokyo, make a stop at the famous Imperial Palace. Other famous places to take your children in Asia include the Taj Mahal in India and the Buddha Gaya Temple in Singapore.


From the pyramids in Egypt to Victoria Falls in southern Africa, you can take your children to several famous places in Africa. Take a boat ride down the Nile River or sees hippos, giraffes and lions at the Masai Mara nature preserve Kenya. Cape Town, South Africa, famous for its family friendly vibe, and the vast deserts in Namibia aren't to be missed either.


Take in a show at the Sydney Opera House and see kangaroos and koalas in their natural habitats in Australia. The Sydney Harbor Bridge is another famous Australian place that your children will enjoy. A day trip to Uluru, or Ayers Rock, is a must while in Australia. Uluru is the world's largest rock and the area is teeming with natural wildlife. A snorkeling adventure to the Great Barrier Reef is another way for your family to experience what's famous about Australia.
