One way parents can keep their kids busy and out of mischief during the long summer months is by signing them up for summer camp. In the Elk Grove area, 15 miles south of California's capital, Sacramento, parents will find an assortment of summer day camps to choose from for their children, ranging from soccer camps to educational day camps.
The Challenger Sports British Soccer Camps has camps at West Lake Soccer Club. This half-day co-ed camp is for kids ages 6 to 16 and can help kids learn the basics of the sport or help them sharpen their skills. Or, your kids can sign up for one of the sports camps offered through Skyhawks and held at the Laguna Community Park in Elk Grove. Children ages 4 to 6 can go to Mini-Hawk camp and play baseball, basketball and soccer. Kids 6 to 12 can attend Flag Football Camp and 7- to 12-year-olds can go to the Soccer Camp.
Arts and Crafts Camps
If your kids are more into the arts, you can sign them up for a Digital Arts Summer Camp, 15 miles away in Sacramento. Kids ages 8 to 14 can attend camp and will learn about creating computer games and enjoy group games, snacks and additional indoor activities. At the JoAnn Fabric and Craft store in Elk Grove, your kids can attend a Kids' Camp, to learn about the basics of crafts such as sewing, cake decorating and knitting.
Bruceville KinderCare in Elk Grove offers a summer day camp with 12 weeks of activities planned, including cooking, math, music and phonics. At Sheldon Acres Child Development Center, also in Elk Grove, your school-age kids can attend a summer day camp to enjoy recreational and learning activities with weekly themes and field trips to places like the swimming pool. Alternatively, Tutor Time Child Care/Learning Centers in Elk Grove offers a Fun in the Sun summer camp, where your kids can enjoy outdoor activities, computer learning games, craft projects, building activities and field trips.
Traditional Day Camps
If a traditional day camp is what you're looking for, the Cosumnes Community Services District in Elk Grove has a Kid Central Summer Day Camp for kids in kindergarten through sixth grade. Camp includes arts, crafts, games, sports, playground time and swimming, all with weekly themes, such as Western Days, Camp Champs and Superheroes. Or, you could send your child to the Day Camp at SAC YMCA, 13 miles away in Sacramento. Buccaneers is for kids in kindergarten and first grade and includes swimming, games and crafts. Pioneers is geared for second and third graders and features exciting enrichment programs and age-appropriate activities. Kids in fourth through sixth grade can go to the Explorers camp and participate in an array of challenging and action-packed activities.
