Fredericksburg, Virginia, is located on the banks of the Rappahannock River, halfway between the state capital of Richmond and the nation's capital of Washington, D.C. Such a location led it to play a prominent role in U.S. history from the American Revolution through the Civil War, and even now it remains proud of its past while continuing to thrive as a modern suburban community. Numerous birthday party options are available in Fredericksburg for kids of all ages, ranging from exploring a historic farm to noshing on gourmet treats at a retro-themed bowling alley.
Down on the Farm
Celebrate your history lover's birthday at a farm once owned by George Washington himself. At Ferry Farm you can choose between two themed birthday packages for ages 5 through 10, one where partygoers will learn about George Washington, and the other where the activities revolve around American Indians. In addition to this staff-led program, you'll get 45 minutes in a party room to enjoy the refreshments you supply, and all party guests are then welcome to stay and tour the museum for free. At Braehead Farm, birthday party guests get to enjoy the farm's playgrounds with their hay bales, pedal tractors, and real farm animals. You can either supply your own food or choose from catering options including deli sandwiches, hamburgers, hotdogs or pulled pork barbeque, with sheet cakes available from a local bakery.
Fun and Games
Central Park Fun-Land is a popular party venue, attracting guests from all over Virginia and the Washington, D.C., metro area. It offers more than 20 different rides and attractions, including go-karts, laser tag, bumper cars and mini golf, in addition to more than 100 arcade games. Party packages include decorations, pizza, drinks, and a reserved table or private party room, as well as access to all of the amusements. Cakes, ice cream, and a dedicated host or hostess are all available as add-ons. Fredericksburg also has a Chuck E. Cheese's, which offers its own party packages with pizza, soft drinks and game tokens for each guest. The birthday child also gets a few extra goodies, including a birthday crown, a jumbo balloon and special recognition in Chuck E.'s birthday show.
Let's Get Active
At Paragon Training Center, Saturday and Sunday afternoons are available for party rentals. You can choose from two different party themes: a general gym theme, which includes an hour of party games, trampoline time, and an obstacle course, and a bounce-and-climb theme, where kids will spend 30 minutes learning basic low climbing and then spend another 30 minutes tumbling and jumping on the trampoline. You also get half an hour in a party room and goody bags for each guest, with the option to add on pizza and/or cake. Great Play is another indoor sports venue which offers parties for kids ages 1 through 10. Party themes are customized to fit your child's interests and personality, as well as the age range of the party guests. In addition to the activities, Great Play also handles the invites, the setup and cleanup and provides the paper products, but you'll need to supply the refreshments.
If your kids are too old for petting zoos, arcade games and indoor play places, bowling parties are fun for big kids and adults, too. AMF Fredericksburg Lanes provides party packages complete with bowling, food and beverages, and even offers "Xtreme bowling" with its flood of sounds and lights sure to appeal to tweens and teens. Splitsville is another Fredericksburg bowling center, one known for its retro theme and tasty, unique food options. Budding foodies will enjoy menu items such as fresh sushi rolls, steamed edamame or fried calamari, while classic burgers and hand-tossed pizza appeal to less adventurous eaters. Splitsville parties include bowling, dining and dancing, and are available for kids of all ages, although kids who are technically adults are not permitted to use bumpers to save them from the dreaded gutter balls.
