The Country That Can Brag About Lasting the Longest at Sex
People around the world have one thing in common when it comes to sex — it isn't lasting as long as they would like. A new survey reveals who is having sex the longest.
Are your lovemaking sessions “finishing” too soon? Well, you aren’t alone. A new survey has determined how long the act of having sex lasts in different regions of the world — and it isn’t nearly the length of time people would like.
Saucy Dates, a United Kingdom-based dating site, asked 3,836 males and females around the globe about their sex lives. The first question? How long did your most recent sex session (excluding foreplay) last? Next question: How long would you have liked it to last? Then the site compared the data by gender, geography and also by age to determine who is having sex the longest and where (geographically speaking) it is taking place.
In a perfect world, women would like the act of sex to last for 25 minutes, 51 seconds, while men’s ideal session is 25 minutes 43 seconds. Unfortunately, the actual amount of time people profess to doing the deed is a lot less, as the following numbers show.
“The bad news for the entire planet is the average man in any country and of any age cannot get close to her or his ideal duration,” reads the survey. “There will be exceptions that do, but on average it’s a disappointment for all.” Ouch.
The study doesn’t clarify whether all countries in the world were surveyed, nor does it give the results of all participating countries, claiming: “Data ranges for other countries were not included, as the volume of data wasn’t sufficient to produce a reliable trend line.”
But it does highlight the “winners,” with the United States ranking first. American 31-year-old men are having sex longer than anyone else — around 17 minutes 5 seconds. Canadian 29-year-old men came in second, at 17 minutes flat, while 31-year-old Brits fell a few seconds short of the Canucks, coming in at 16 minutes and 58 seconds, for a close third place. Thirty-one-year-old Aussies nabbed the fourth spot, hanging in there for about 16 minutes and 34 seconds. Those in India have the least amount of stamina, with 50-year-olds surprisingly lasting the longest — an average of 15 minutes 15 seconds.
The researchers bring up an interesting trend in the data: Intercourse duration increases with age (up to a point), and then begins to decrease. According to their numbers, 18-year-old men are having sex for the shortest amount of time, hitting their peak around 31. Older guys fall somewhere in between.
It’s suggested that the geographical discrepancies could have to do with anatomical differences; they mention there is some anecdotal evidence that implies Indian women have smaller vaginas. (Yes, really.) Another factor is that more people are circumcised in the United States, Canada and Australia, which could influence performance. Studies have found that men who have been snipped last longer than those who haven’t — and the same goes for the women having sex with them — likely because removing the skin has a desensitizing effect.
As far as age is concerned, men could be having sex for longer in their 30s because of anatomical differences (this time, they offer the dislikable suggestion that women’s vaginas stretch out after having kids.) It also could be because they get better at sex with age or that they “try harder and make more of an effort” in their 30s.
If you are falling short of expectations in the bedroom, don’t despair. There are things you can do to improve your performance time that do not involve popping a Viagra. For instance, exercise has been scientifically proven to increase performance between the sheets. There are also certain foods, such as oysters, bananas, figs, garlic, avocados, almonds, chocolate and celery, that have been credited with releasing sex hormones, helping with impotence and improving stamina. Here are natural ways to increase your sex drive.
