Tom Brady's Motivation to Win the Super Bowl Will Melt Your Heart

Tom Brady gets real at Super Bowl LI.

While you may think Tom Brady’s motivation for winning this year’s Super Bowl was to add another championship ring to his record-breaking collection, his real motivation to win will straight up melt your heart. The New England Patriots quarterback wanted to win for his mother, who has been battling cancer.

Brady’s mother, Galynn Brady, has always attended as many games as she can to root for her son. But during the 2016 season, Galynn’s battle with her illness kept her from being able to watch her son play. In fact, the only game she was able to attend was this year’s Super Bowl — a game that Tom told Westwood One he dedicated to his mother.

Even though she has been undergoing chemotherapy and radiation for her cancer, Galynn came out to support her son in what would be his fifth winning championship. The brave mom could be seen in the crowd, cheering for her son with a New England Patriots-themed scarf wrapped around her head.

While Tom has remained quiet about the details surrounding his mother’s illness, New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft told NESN: “I spoke to [Brady] in the locker room before the game, and I said, ‘We gotta win this one for your mom,’ because I know how important his mom is,” Kraft said. “She’s been going through chemotherapy and radiation, and this is the first game she’s been to. She came here, and I just saw her, and it was really cool.”

While the 39-year-old broke multiple records for his performance during Sunday night’s game, there’s one thing that’s for sure: There’s never a better reason to win than for someone else who really needs one.
