While sexual assault allegations are sadly nothing new when it comes to controversial yogi Bikram Choudhury, the Bikram yoga founder has just shown the world his true colors in a shocking new interview with HBO.
Choudhury, who has had four different women accuse him of sexual assault, was recently interviewed by sports journalist Andrea Kremer for a truly surprising episode of HBO’s Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel. In the interview, Kremer asks the yogi about everything from his style of yoga to his teaching methods, but when Kremer asks him about the allegations of sexual assault Choudhury becomes fully unhinged.
When talking about the women who have accused him of sexual assault, Choudhury refers to them as everything from “trash” to “psychopaths,” explaining that he would never have to attack anyone. “Because if I need women I can make a line of the most beautiful, famous, rich women in the world,” Choudhury tells Kremer. “I could sleep with 5,000 girls every day.”
When Kremer asked Choudhury directly if he sexually assaulted Sarah Baughn, one of the women who publicly accused him, he said, “Of course not. I would never even piss on her face … she’s a psychopath.”
He then goes on to tell Kremer that women want to sleep with him so badly that four different women have committed suicide because he wouldn’t sleep with them. And if that wasn’t enough, he attests: “Why would I have to harass women? People spend $1 million for a drop of my sperm.”
If there was still any question left about what Choudhury thinks of women after all of that, the best of the worst comes in the form of Choudhury telling Kremer: “I pick them from the trash and give them life.”
The interview also focuses on just how horribly he treats his Bikram students. Besides having to pay upward of $12,000 to attend one of his yoga training programs, Kremer reported that upon arriving at the nine-week-long program, students receive a welcome packet with instructions such as: “Your focus should be listening to Bikram and doing what you’re told … the most important thing is to listen to Bikram.”
If that rhetoric wasn’t strange enough, the yogi also has a weird hate for the color green. Because the color “offends” Choudhury, students are not allowed to wear any green clothing or accessories in his presence.
On the more serious side, Choudhury also reportedly mocks and ridicules students; calling them fat, monitoring their diets and verbally abusing them. When asked in the interview if he has any regrets about the way he has spoken to people, he tells Kremer: “Of course not. Why should I? I have to yell, scream, shout, ‘You fat-ass. What the f’s wrong with you? What’s wrong with you? You don’t listen to me. You dumb — you dumb f.’ Because she doesn’t listen.”
At the end of the segment, Choudhury storms out and cuts the interview short, telling Kremer: “You are nothing but piece-of-shit psychopaths. Go home. This is over.”
While it’s not particularly shocking that Choudhury would insult the female reporter before storming out, what is shocking is just how long it took him to understand how terrible he was making himself look to the world.
