The Best Time for Kids to Trick or Treat
Trick-or-treating is the funnest part of Halloween for kids 2. Though some are starting to skip the tradition, particularly when the children are very young, many children, accompanied by their parents, still make the yearly trek around the neighborhood. Going at the right time can help you to maximize your child's candy stash.
No matter what specific time you head out for trick-or-treating, it's best to start out on a full stomach, according to KidsHealth.org. Your child is going to come home with a bag full of tasty treats and you know that it isn't fair to not let him eat any. By eating a healthy dinner before you head out, you'll ensure that he has some healthy food in his belly along with the sweet treats he'll want to eat later.
At one time, trick-or-treating times were left up to individual interpretations of the word "evening." More recently, many towns have set aside specific times for trick-or-treating. Times generally range from 4 to 9 p.m., but it's at the discretion of the trick-or-treater's parents. In some cases, trick-or-treating is scheduled for a Friday or Saturday night if Halloween falls during the week. A special afternoon trick-or-treating time might occur when children can go to businesses to get candy.
Before or After Sunset
Depending on your location, the sun is likely to set between 6:30 and 7 p.m., getting dark by 7:30 p.m. This can effect when you choose to go trick-or-treating 2. If you have young children who are afraid of the dark, or are worried that your town could be unsafe after dark, it's smart to go before the sunset. If your children are a bit older, however, they might find it more fitting to go trick-or-treating in the dark.
6:30 to 8
In general, the best times for trick-or-treating are probably between 6:30 to 8 p.m. By starting this late, you can be fairly certain that people are home from work and you are not interrupting their dinner. Your kids will also have had time to eat and put their costumes on. Past 8 p.m., though, the timing starts to seem a little late, as people might begin their bedtime routines at that time.
