Things to Do With Kids in Kaufman County, Texas
Kaufman County, situated in northeast Texas, is part of the Dallas/Fort Worth metropolitan area. The county and the city of Kaufman were named for the U.S. diplomat and congressman, David Spangler Kaufman. Forney, Terrell, Seagoville, Mesquite and Mabank are also located in Kaufman County 2. If you live in the area or are planning to visit, you'll find a variety of things to do with your kids there.
Kaufman County plays host to a number of events throughout the year that you can enjoy with your kids. In Kaufman, you can attend the annual Family Day Event at Kaufman City Lake Park in June or the annual Fourth of July parade and picnic in July. In the fall, your kids can participate in the Scarecrow Festival to enjoy a parade, live entertainment, a circus, climbing wall, pony rides, a bouncy house and a petting zoo 1. A Kid's Fishing Derby takes place in Seagoville in May, and in Terrell, your family can enjoy a Christmas parade around the holidays 2.
Parks and Recreation
Check out the activities available through some of the county's parks and recreation departments 2. The City of Terrell Public Works Parks and Recreation has a swimming pool in Ben Gill Park that features water slides, diving boards and a kiddie pool 26. You'll also find sporting facilities, hiking trails and playgrounds inside the park 6. Seagoville Parks and Recreation Department maintains Bruce Central Park, covering over 35 acres, with a pond, playground, sports fields and courts and picnic areas 26. In Forney, you can take your kids to Forney Community Park to hike or bike the trails or to Heritage Hill Park to play on the playground or enjoy the open play space.
Enjoy some activities in the great outdoors of Kaufman County. Cedar Creek Lake in Mabank covers over 32,000 acres and has 320 miles of shoreline 3. You could take your family swimming, boating or fishing on the lake or play on one of the beaches. Or, you can visit Cedar Ridge near Dallas for some nature activities 4. Your family can have a picnic or walk some of the 9 miles of trails that wind through the 600 acre preserve. Watch the butterflies in the butterfly garden, and keep an eye out for birds, reptiles and insects.
You can go for some family fun at Aloha Roller Palace in Mesquite 5. Drop by during one of the open skating times or sign your children up for one of the skating classes or clubs. Special events also take place, like the All Night Skate and holiday skate parties. You can instead take the kids to Whatzup Family Fun Park in Seven Points. This family fun center features bumper cars, laser tag, batting cages, a rock wall and paintball. Your family can also play a game of mini golf or enjoy games in the arcade while you're there.
