DuPage County is home to around 916,000 residents, as of the 2010 U.S. Census, and is part of the western Chicago metropolitan area. The townships of Naperville, Addison, Downers Grove, Bloomingdale, Milton, Lisle, York, Winfield and Wayne are all found in DuPage County, along with a number of smaller villages. Residents and visitors to the county will find an abundance of entertaining activities for children to enjoy there.
During the summer, you and your children can cool off on a hot day at Centennial Beach in Naperville. Covering around six acres, this aquatic park features a sand beach, zero-depth entry pool, interactive water play features and a children's playground. In Carol Stream, your kids can splash and play at Coral Cove Water Park. The beach-themed water park has tube waterslides, an interactive water playground and a spray playground for the little ones to enjoy.
Events and Festivals
You can make plans to attend some of the special events and festivals that take place in DuPage County throughout the year. In August, you can go to the Frontier Kite Fly Festival in Naperville to fly gigantic kites and participate in games and hands-on activities. The annual DuPage County Fair takes place in Wheaton in July and includes live entertainment, carnival rides, a petting zoo and family activities. In Warrenville, Summer Daze takes place in August and features music, a car show, kids rides and yummy treats. When fall rolls around, your family can attend the Itasca Oktoberfest to enjoy live entertainment, German food and the Kid's Corner play area. Wheaton has some holiday events in the winter, including a lighted holiday parade, gingerbread house contest and visits with Santa.
DuPage County offers an array of outdoor activities that you and your kids can enjoy. You can go for a bike ride with your family on some of the 486 miles of trails that wind throughout the county or visit one of the forest preserves, like Blackwell Forest Preserve in Warrenville. Covering more than 1,300 acres, this forest preserve features nine miles of hiking trails, picnic areas and public fishing on 62-acre Silver Lake. Or, you could visit The Morton Arboretum in Lisle where your children can play in the Children's Garden, splashing through the secret streams, sliding down tree roots and exploring nature.
Zoo or Museum
At the Cosley Zoo in Wheaton, your children can spend time exploring and getting to know animals like llamas, goats, deer, fox and turtles. In Discovery Station, your kids can enjoy animal encounters and watch animal training sessions. Programs are offered for kids at the zoo, like Zoo Investigators, Toddler Time and various camps. In Naperville, your family can visit the DuPage Children's Museum to check out exhibits like Make It Move, Awesome Electricity, Young Explorers and Waterways and Bubbles. Children's programs include Family Fun Friday Nights and Creativity Classes.
