New York City has a wealth of evening activities for kids. They can tour the city looking at the brightly lit skyline or go to a Broadway show. Kids can take a trip to FAO Schwarz to play on the big piano or tour the candy shop. Rockefeller Center also has many activities for kids, including ice skating and art exhibits. New York City has just as much going on at night as during the day.
The bright lights of New York are memorable. One way to enjoy the lights of the city is on the Staten Island Ferry. This is an inexpensive, fun activity for kids. Kids will see the Statue of Liberty lit up, and the skyscrapers of Lower Manhattan. Another way to see the skyline lit up at night is in the Empire State Building Observatory.
New York City is known for its shopping. FAO Schwarz offers an opportunity for kids to come in and play around while shopping. The store is on Fifth Avenue, and has been around for 150 years. Some of the store's activities include face painting and glitter tattoos, story times and a 6,000-square-foot candy department. Its large foot piano was featured in the movie "Big," with Tom Hanks. This store has something for kids of all ages.
Broadway for Kids
Another draw of New York City is attending a Broadway show, and many shows will be appropriate for a younger audience. Seeing the lights of Times Square and attending a Broadway show can be an exciting evening for any child. There are also Off-Broadway plays and musicals, if that better suits the trip. This is one way to introduce performance arts to kids as a fun activity.
Ice skating at Rockefeller Center is another kid-friendly attraction in New York City. During the nonskating season, other events draw people to Rockefeller Center. A Summer Garden is in place of the ice skating rink, and you can enjoy a meal at Rock Center Café. During Christmas, the famous tree at Rockefeller Center attracts tourists and locals alike.
