Only minutes from the Las Vegas strip, the city of Henderson, Nevada offers plenty of entertaining and educational activities to keep preschoolers busy and happy. Whether you live in the area or are just visiting, you'll find fun ways to spend the day year round with your little one in this scenic desert city.

Preschool Classes

A membership to the Parkridge Center's Gymboree Play and Music of Henderson opens up opportunities for weekly classes and unlimited playtime at the Playgym. Here, your preschooler can develop creativity, confidence and lifelong friendships in variety classes, which include family art, music and school skills. Rock and Roll Kids is a Henderson indoor play area with plenty of activities to engage your preschooler. Two classes geared especially for preschool-aged children -- Rock Stars and Big Kids -- use themed activities to encourage development of advanced gross motor skills and social skills while giving your child a chance get active and expel some energy.

Outdoor Activities

Home to thousands of migratory water fowl in addition to many resident desert bird, the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve is an exciting place for your preschooler to explore. Borrow a set of binoculars from the preserve, or bring your own, and observe the birds as you walk the scenic pathways that surround the preserve's nine ponds. Acacia Park in Henderson offers 16 acres of outdoor fun for your preschooler, including a playground, splash park and a covered picnic area where you can enjoy a family barbecue on a hot summer day.

Indoor Activities

If the weather is simply to hot to enjoy any outdoor activities with your preschooler, visit one of the four Henderson libraries where your preschooler can participate in the educational and free activities they offer. In addition to story times, the libraries also host music classes, story tellers, arts and crafts, and cooking activities geared towards preschool-aged children. Clark County Museum offers hands-on exhibits that feature items from Las Vegas Valley's early settlers. If your little one is itching to burn some energy, drop by Gymcats during their open gym hours to run, climb and play in one of the largest gymnastics facilities in the Las Vegas area.

Aquatic Activities

The Heritage Park Aquatic Center boasts two indoor pools -- a competitive lap pool and a more shallow, warm-water pool -- in addition to four family locker rooms. They also offer preschool swim classes and private lessons on a year-round basis. The outdoor Whitney Ranch Activity Pool, adjacent to the Whitney Ranch Recreation Center, is open during the summer month and offers many water play features -- including slides and fountains -- for your preschooler to enjoy.
