When birthdays draw near, children fill with excitement and anticipation of the upcoming day. Kids love a birthday bash and of course, you'll want to make your little one's celebration special. If you're a Long Island parent, you're in luck because you'll find an array of venues appropriate for a little kid's party, whether your daughter is all about the glam or you have a son who's into science or animals.

Museum Exploration

Plan an impressive party for your budding scientist and his little friends at the Science Museum of Long Island in Plandome. You and your child can choose from themes like Animal Encounters, Discovering Dinos, Slime, Volcanoes, Tie-Dye or Goo and Ooze. Parties include hands-on science activities relating to your theme, a party assistant, invitations, a free birthday gift and a museum water bottle for each party goer. Alternatively, the Long Island Children's Museum in Garden City offers party packages that include pizza, drinks, cake, goody bags and activities. Choose from themes, such as Happy Bug Day!, Spy School, Story Art, Messy Merriment and Superhero Party.

Play Time Parties

Kids who are looking for an action-packed time can celebrate their birthdays at Active Kidz in Jericho. You can choose an Active Play party package, which includes time in the toddler center or adventure maze, a private party room, as well as time in the inflatable fun zone or glow-in-the-dark dance fun. If your kids are a bit older, you can choose the Laser Tag party package, which includes a private party room and one hour of laser tag. Both packages include paper goods, a party assistance, invitations, food and drinks. At Chilibeans Party Place in Hempstead, your birthday child can party with her little friends in the Rock & Roll and Tumble Tots playrooms. Additional options include time in the Lego playroom, craft activities, carnival games and music. All party packages include balloons, invitations, drinks, tableware and two party leaders.

Cooking or Diva Party

Your future chef can whip up something yummy with her friends at Little Chefs in Port Washington. The basic party package includes your choice of a meal, such as grilled cheese, chicken nuggets, bagels, waffles, drinks and fries, as well as themes like pretzel making, cookie making and cupcake making. For an additional charge, you can choose from special themes, such as Mexican, Chinese and Italian cuisine. You can also add extras like loot bags, an ice cream sundae bar and personalized chef hats. If cooking isn't her thing, your little diva and her little diva friends might want to party it up at Darlings and Divas in Amityville. Here, your daughter can have a tea party, spa party or princess party. Each package includes party hostesses, invitations, food, drinks, dress-up time, stage time and dancing.

Animal Fun

Another option is to have a farm party at White Post Farms in Melville. All party guests get to visit the animal farm, enjoy pony rides, food, drinks and have the opportunity to feed baby animals. You'll also get to use a private decorated party room -- and all the paper goods are included. The deluxe party package even includes party hats, party favors and a birthday cake. Alternatively, you could celebrate your little one's birthday at Castle Creek Farms in Mendon. Party packages include pony rides for the birthday guest and all his little friends, as well as a private party area for cake and gift opening.
