As a popular tourist stop along the Virginia Peninsula, the city of Williamsburg has many activities for kids. Colonial Williamsburg is a part of the historic triangle joined by Jamestown and Yorktown. Many kids will enjoy the historical sites, but several modern amusements also await in this busy little town.
Also known as the Revolutionary City for its central role in the Revolutionary War, Colonial Williamsburg (colonialwilliamsburg.com) features a large collection of museums, buildings and tours that will take visitors back in time. A tour offered is called Children Orientation Walks that gives an overview of the town and the latest attractions and events. The DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum displays furniture, paintings, firearms, textiles and ceramics from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. Kids might also appreciate a horse-drawn carriage ride complete with a guided tour of the city.
Williamsburg is home to many game centers. Pirate's Cove Miniature Golf (piratescove.net) is a mini golf course with waterfalls, footbridges and mountain coves. Galaxy Tag (williamsburglasertag.com) is a 5,700 square-foot laser tag arena. It is space-themed with black lights and space structures. Bounce House (bouncehousellc.com) has an indoor inflatable toy collection for kids to jump on and run around. It has a separate area for toddlers and free Wi-Fi for parents.
Go-Karts Plus (gokartsplus.com) has four go-kart racing tracks and bumper cars, kiddie rides, a large roller coaster, miniature golf, blaster boats, video arcade games and a snack bar. Great Wolf Lodge (greatwolf.com) houses an indoor water park with elements for all ages. It has large, thrilling slides for the older kids, a kiddie pool for toddlers and preschoolers and a four-story climbing structure for all ages. Or, take the kids to Busch Gardens (seaworldparks.com), an amusement park with giant upside-down roller coasters, kiddie rides and stage shows.
The city of Williamsburg (williamsburgva.gov) has several community parks. Kiwanis Municipal Park (no website; Longhill Road; 757-259-3760) features playground equipment, ball fields, picnic shelters and tennis courts. Waller Mill Park (no website; Airport Road; 757-259-3778) is a 2,705-acre facility surrounding a reservoir. Activities include pedal-boating, fishing, hiking, canoeing and kayaking. Quarterpath Recreation Center & Park (no website; 202 Quarterpath Road; 757-259-3778) features an outdoor pool, playgrounds, volleyball courts, picnic shelters, playing fields and tennis courts.
