Fun Things to Do With Kids in the Daytona Beach, Florida Area
Daytona Beach sits along the eastern coast of Florida in Volusia County and is home to NASCAR's famous Daytona 500 15. Families visiting this gorgeous beach community and the surrounding area will find a wide array of activities awaiting them, ranging from days spent on the beach to exploring some of the area museums and nature centers.
Beach and Water Activities
You'll find 23 miles of white, sandy beaches in Daytona Beach, and you and your kids can enjoy them 24 hours a day, 7 days a week 15. If you make the 30-minute drive up the coast to Flagler Beach, your family can visit the North Peninsula State Park, where you'll find more than 2 miles of beautiful beaches, and you can view wildlife such as:
- gopher tortoises
- indigo snakes
Surf fishing is also permitted from the beach.
There is an array of completely free activities to enjoy in Daytona Beach 15. You can visit the 4-acre Sun Splash Park, maintained by the Volusia County Parks, Recreation and Culture Department. It's open from sunrise to sunset and has an interactive water fountain, picnic areas, beach parking and a shaded playground. If you need a free indoor activity, you and your kids could head over to Angell and Phelps Chocolate Factory for a free tour. This factory is on Beach Street and gives visitors the opportunity to see how candy is made the old-fashioned way. You'll even get some free samples of chocolate to try.
Take your kids to the Marine Science Center, 16 minutes away in Ponce Inlet 3. There, your family can see how sea turtles are rehabilitated; see interactive displays; walk the nature trails and boardwalk; and check out the artificial reef aquarium. Alternatively, you could stop by the Reptile Discovery Center, 27 minutes away in Deland 4. You can walk the nature trail to see tortoises, lizards and other reptiles. Inside the center, you'll see snakes from all over the world, including rattlesnakes and cobras. At the Museum of Arts and Sciences in Daytona Beach, your family can explore rotating exhibits like Giant Ground Sloth and Florida Celebrates Space 15. While you're there, catch a planetarium or laser show. Special events take place as well, such as Swingin' with the Smithsonian Jr. and the Natural History Festival.
Amusement Centers and Mini-Golf
Visit the Daytona Beach Boardwalk, where your family can play arcade games, ride a Ferris wheel or roller coaster and race go-karts in the Mardi Gras Fun Center and Joyland Amusement Center 15. Or, take your kids for some mini-golf at Congo River Golf 6. The course features mysterious caves, tropical rainforests, tranquil waterfalls and rocky summits. In addition to mini-golf, you can feed live alligators, play arcade games and mine for some sparkling gems.
