When a couple decides to try and get pregnant, most want to achieve pregnancy right away. If you want to conceive and have had difficulty or just want to increase your chances of conceiving, you have several options. Here's how to increase your fertility and improve your chances of conceiving.
Time sexual intercourse well. Many couples have sexual intercourse at the wrong times during the woman's menstrual cycle. In order to conceive, couples should have sex in the days leading up to ovulation (the day the woman releases an egg) and on the day of ovulation. Sexual intercourse at other times during the month will most likely not result in a pregnancy. To know the time of ovulation, a woman should consider charting her basal body temperature, using a fertility monitor or using ovulation predictor test kits.
Use herbal remedies to increase your fertility. Vitex, also known as chasteberry, can help regulate a woman's menstrual cycles, promote ovulation, lengthen her luteal phase (the time from ovulation until the first day of the next menstrual period) and regulate her hormone levels. Women can also use dong quai to help regulate their menstrual cycles and balance their hormones. Men may consider using panax ginseng to increase their testosterone levels and improve both sperm motility and sperm count.
Consider vitamins as a way to increase your fertility. Eating a healthy diet rich in vitamins and minerals can help improve one's chances of conceiving. Vitamin supplements can also prove useful to some couples. Vitamin B6 can help a woman lengthen her luteal phase. Zinc can help improve the man's sperm count and quality, and vitamin C can also aid to improve sperm motility and quality.
Talk to your doctor. Some couples can benefit from traditional medical therapies to help them get pregnant. Fertility drugs such as clomid can help improve female fertility in women who don't ovulate regularly or who don't ovulate at all. Other technologies, such as intrauterine insemination (IUI) and in vitro fertilization (IVF) can also help some couples conceive.
