How to Make Baby Nappy Cakes

By Jeffrey Brian

Nappy cakes, otherwise known as diaper cakes, are versatile items at baby showers because they can double as a centrepiece decoration and a gift. Diaper or nappy cakes can be made with any theme in mind. Your mom-to-be will love it because they're adorable and she can use all the items on the cake to care for and entertain her little one.

Unfold 58 diapers and roll each one from one end to another tightly. Place a rubber band around the centre of each diaper.

Set a baby bath product bottle such as shampoo or lotion in the centre of a circular pizza or cake tray. Place five or six rolled diapers around the bottle. Wrap a large rubber band all the way around the diapers, with the bottle at the centre.

Surround the diapers with another circle of approximately 10 to 11 diapers. Place a large rubber band all the way around these.

Place another 15 or 16 diapers around this layer. Wrap a piece of wide ribbon all the way around this third diaper layer. Tape both ends of the ribbon down.

Create a round clump of seven or eight diapers centred on top of the first layer. Place a large rubber band around these diapers. Surround with the remaining 12 or 13 diapers to fill out the layer. Make sure it still retains its round shape. Wrap a piece of ribbon around the layer and tape down to secure. It should now look like a two-tier cake.

Create a small clump with eight diapers. Wrap a rubber band around these. Cover the rubber band with a ribbon and tape to secure, and place this clump of diapers centred on top of the other two layers of diapers. It should now look like a three-tier cake.

Place a stuffed animal or book on top of the top layer of eight diapers. Attach pacifiers, rattles, toys and other baby items to decorate.
