The Graco TurboBooster Safe Seat offers the necessary safety support to young children who are too big to use a toddler car seat but do not meet state height and weight requirements to use car seat belts. This seat is affordable and quick to assemble. Its adjustable headrest and armrests, as well as a removable back support, allow the seat to grow with the child. It employs the existing car safety belt, which simplifies vehicle installation and helps children become accustomed to the lap and shoulder belt restraint.

Booster Seat Assembly

Step 1

Insert the armrests into base. The armrest buttons should slide into the base slots and snap in place. Press the button in to raise or lower the armrest to the desired height. Insert the height-adjustment screw and tighten with a screwdriver. Attach the armrest covers by inserting the armrest into the open underside of the cover and pulling the cover to the rear of the armrest and pressing the cover in place.

Step 2

Place the head support and lower back support on a flat surface with the backside facing up. Squeeze the red adjustment button at the bottom of the back support, and slide the head support into the connecting guides until both parts snap together. Connect the elastic strap in the rear to hold the fabric seat cover in place. Turn the seat over, and insert the head-support fabric under the fabric on the lower back support.

Step 3

Attach the backrest to the base by connecting U-hooks on the backrest to the bars on the base. Keep the fabric cover clear of the connection points. Push the backrest into the upright position.

Installing the Booster Seat in a Vehicle

Step 1

Place the seat in the rear vehicle seating position facing forward. Fit the booster seat tight against the vehicle seat back.

Step 2

Instruct your child to sit in the booster seat flat against the back of the seat. Thread the shoulder belt through the shoulder belt guide located on the headrest. Pull the safety belt over the child's shoulder, across the chest, and under the armrest, crossing low on the hips.

Step 3

Ask the child to lean forward slightly. Squeeze the red adjustment button on the top of the seat, and pull up or push down to adjust the head support height to the appropriate position. The child's ears must be below the top of the booster seat.

Removing the Back Support

Step 1

Lower the back support until it is parallel with the seat base. Lift the back support off the base at the U-hook connections.

Step 2

Locate the vertical bar on the rear of the seat closest to where the vehicle belt lays across the child. Insert the loop of the belt-positioning clip strap around the vertical bar of the base. Pass the clip and strap through the loop end, and pull the strap up.

Step 3

Slide the vehicle shoulder belt onto the clip, and pull the strap down to tighten against the child's shoulder.
