Graco Snugride Installation Instructions

By Ashley Garay
Keep your new baby safe by installing your infant seat properly.

The Graco Snugride infant car seat can be used for babies who weigh between 5 and 22 pounds and are 29 inches or less in height. The infant seat should ideally be installed in the rear center seat of the vehicle and must never be used in a seat that has a front air bag. The Snugride infant seat can only be used rear-facing and may be installed with LATCH or the seat belt. The LATCH (lower anchors and tethers for children) system is available in most newer vehicles. Check vehicle manual for locations and instructions.

Preparation

Park vehicle on a level surface.

Remove infant seat from base by pulling up on the red handle on rear of seat and lifting seat free from base.

Position infant seat or base in a rear-facing position in desired vehicle seat.

Installing Base with Seat Belt

Thread the lap belt through the slots on the base, being sure to pass belt under the tongue on the top of the base.

Buckle the seat belt. Be sure that the seat belt is not twisted.

Push the base down into the seat using your knee and pull the the seat belt to tightly secure the base.

Push the infant seat into the base until you hear a click. Try to pull the infant seat out of the base to be sure it is firmly latched.

Installing Infant Seat with Seat Belt

Lower the carrying handle of the infant seat by pressing buttons on either side of the handle simultaneously and pressing towards the head of the seat.

Thread lap belt through slots on either side of the infant seat across the area where the baby's legs would be.

Buckle seat belt, being careful the belt is not twisted.

Push the base down into the seat using your knee and pull the the seat belt to tightly secure the base.

Installing Base with LATCH

Pull LATCH buckle to its full length by pressing the button above the buckle and pulling.

Pull LATCH through the slots on either side of the base, passing LATCH under the tongue in the middle of the base. Verify the LATCH belt is not twisted.

Press the connectors onto the lower anchors in the crease of the vehicle seat. Check vehicle manual for proper placement of LATCH connectors. Check connection by pulling LATCH connectors firmly.

Place your knee in the base and press base down towards seat while pulling LATCH adjustment belt firmly to tighten.

Push the infant seat into the base until you hear a click. Try to pull the infant seat out of the base to be sure it is firmly latched.

Checking Recline

Verify correct recline of infant seat after installation by checking level indicator. If level indicator shows only blue, the seat is properly reclined. If orange is showing, the recline must be adjusted.

Adjust the incline of the base by lowering or raising the foot of the base, located in the front and underneath of the base. Pull the foot of the base down to lower the foot or place the base on a flat surface and push down while pressing in with your fingers on the base to raise the foot.

Add a rolled towel or pool noodle under the infant seat or base near the crease of the vehicle seat if orange still shows in the level indicator. Seat should be used only when there is only blue showing in the level indicator.

Tip

A locking clip may be needed for certain types of seat belt installs, including a lap/shoulder belt with sliding latch plate. Check vehicle and product manuals for more information.

Warning

Always consult product manual and vehicle manual for important safety instructions for your infant seat.
